Samantha Womack wants to return to 'EastEnders'.

The 40-year-old actress is keen to reprise her role as Ronnie Mitchell - who she portrayed in the BBC One soap for four years before leaving the show in 2011 - but she doesn't expect to be back in Albert Square anytime soon.

When asked if she would ever consider returning to 'EastEnders', she replied: "Of course I would, but at the moment there are no plans to. Ronnie wasn't in a place where she could continue back then. She'd had too much grief. I miss it."

Samantha's last storyline in the soap saw her alter-ego involved in a controversial cot death plot in which Ronnie swapped her dead baby boy for Kat Moon's (Jessie Wallace) newborn son, and after denying she quit because the storyline was too much for her, she has since moved onto "heavier roles".

She explained: "I did say once that it's hard crying every day. But the media was trying to generate a story out of not very much. I've done other heavier roles, like Harold Pinter's 'Betrayal'."

However, Samantha insists she "misses" her fellow cast members, and sees Rita Simons - who plays Roxy Mitchell - as a "sister" figure.

She added to new! magazine: "I love them. I miss them all so much. I see Scott Maslen [Jack Branning] the most. We've known each other since we were teenagers. I also speak to Rita Simons every couple of days. She's like my sister - I adore her."
