Channel 5 are "unlikely" to show a third series of 'Dallas'.

Station bosses are unhappy with the performance of the second season of the revamped drama series, with ratings dropping from three million to just 328,000 in its new 11pm time slot, and are now planning to call time of the show.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "The remake hasn't really worked and it is expensive to buy in for the number of viewers it's attracting.

"It looks as though viewers have quickly got bored. The audience was dropping like a stone. It might just be that 'Dallas' was a product of its time. It's unlikely that a third season will be shown."

It was recently revealed that 'Dallas' bosses are planning to kill off J. R. Ewing - who is played by the late Larry Hagman, who died of cancer in November - in a special episode of the US show.

A source said: "We wanted Larry's legacy to remain beyond this show. We felt that one way would be to mirror the most memorable episode of all times. "

The programme will echo the second most-watched TV episode of all time, 'Who Killed JR?', which drew in 83 million American viewers and 20 million Brits when it was first broadcast in the 80s.

Fans had waited seven months to discover who had shot evil oil baron J.R., and the new tribute episode will follow the same principle as viewers tune in to find out which of his enemies is responsible for his tragic exit.
