The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers doesn't think bands have earned the right to act out and live a rock 'n' roll lifestyle until they have the hits to back it up

The Killers say bands need to "earn" a rock 'n' roll lifestyle.

The 'Mr. Brightside' group feel musicians are only entitled to lead a wild and debauched lifestyle if they have the hits to back it up.

Speaking on the subject of rock 'n' roll excess, singer Brandon Flowers said: "I think there's a certain amount of it that's expected, and people fall into that, and I'm not here to preach, but I think that lifestyle should be earned if they're going to do it.

"So many bands are doing it and they haven't written a chorus yet, or written a hit yet.

"The [Rolling] Stones and Led Zeppelin, they earned it. So if you're gonna act like Led Zeppelin, you know, you'd better have the riffs and the choruses to prove it."

The Killers released their fourth album, 'Battle Born', in September, but Brandon is already thinking of what the band will do next time they get in the studio.

He told "We just get together, you've got new influences, new experiences, and you just step up to your instrument and do your best. Hopefully you get an accurate representation of where you're at."

The singer also hinted he could go solo again after the success of his 2010 album, 'Flamingo', released while the band were on hiatus.

He teased: "I don't know, I don't rule anything out. I loved doing my solo record, I loved touring it and singing those songs. I could see that happening again for sure."
