Dame Helen Mirren was snubbed when she started out in Hollywood.
The 67-year-old star has revealed she felt in the shadow of her influential husband Taylor Hackford - who she wed in 1997 after 11 years together - as a young actress and was often ignored at showbiz events because people would make a beeline for him instead.
She confessed: "When I first went into Hollywood, and I was with my husband who is/was at that time a very successful film director - he'd made 'An Officer and a Gentleman' - he was very recognised in Hollywood and I absolutely was not.
"I did experience people walking through me to get to the great and the glorious Taylor Hackford."
The Oscar-winning 'Hitchcock' star felt ill at ease in the "masculine world" of the film industry and revealed it took her time to feel like she deserved her place on set and lose her insecurities.
Helen told Radio Times magazine: "Working on those movies I didn't know what the hell I was doing. At the beginning I was just in my little actor's bubble, and very insecure. Partly because in those days it was a very masculine world, a totally masculine world, a film set.
"And as a youngish woman you're already slightly self-conscious and feeling a bit embarrassed and a bit under the microscope and not feeling like you really fit in. It was a very, very blokey world in the early days."
