Michelle Connor to take over Rovers Return?
'Coronation Street' bosses will make the Rovers Return bigger and better when it is rebuilt following a fire, and it is rumoured Michelle Connor will be the pub's new landlady.
Coronation Street's Michelle Connor is tipped to be the next Rovers Return landlady.
The iconic pub will be destroyed by a huge fire in an upcoming storyline, and show bosses plan to use the blaze to give the famous building a complete overhaul, making it bigger and better and installing the brunette beauty - who is played by Kym Marsh - in charge.
A source told The Sun newspaper: "The Rovers will be rebuilt on a bigger scale - the plans show it with two upstairs windows, instead of the one it has now.
"That means more space for a larger family.
"Everything is very hush hush but there is speculation that Michelle Connor (Kym Marsh) could end up running the new Rovers - as bosses want to cement her as an all-time favourite."
Producers are also considering using the new set to create a tribute to Betty Driver, who died in October 2011 aged 91 after playing Betty Williams for 42 years.
The source continued: "Other rumours are that the pub will have a new dining area inside and that Betty Driver's portrait will have pride of place as a lasting tribute to her."
It was revealed last week that the Sunita Alahan (Shobna Gulati) will die in the blaze - and will be the main suspect for starting the fire after her former lover Karl Munro (John Michie) rekindles his romance with landlady Stella Price (Michelle Collins).
A source said: "Even Sunita becoming a victim can't stop people pointing the finger. But if they're wrong then the real arsonist will still be at large."
