Natalie Gumede and Nigel Havers are reportedly being axed from 'Coronation Street' in part of a shake-up by new boss Stuart Blackburn
Natalie Gumede and Nigel Havers are to be axed from 'Coronation Street'.
The brunette beauty's violent character Kirsty Soames and the 61-year-old star's alter-ego Lewis Archer are reportedly being written out of the ITV soap - which won the Serial Drama prize at last night's (23.01.13) National Television Awards - in what is feared to be part of a cull by new boss Stuart Blackburn.
A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "There have already been rumours the new boss will want to put his stamp on things, but these two big changes are certain."
It is not yet known how Kirsty's stint in Weatherfield will come to an end but she is set to suffer for beating up her former fiance Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).
The insider explained: "Talks on how Kirsty will leave are ongoing, but producers know the audience want her to get her deserts. One way or another, she will.
"This could herald the start of a major new era for 'Corrie'."
However, Alan - who picked up the Serial Drama Performance prize at the NTAs, and dedicated it to his late co-star Bill Tarmey, who played Jack Duckworth in the soap - said last night he hopes Kirsty doesn't get killed off.
He told BANG Showbiz: "I think one thing about the show is that it hasn't been sensationalised with deaths and murders so maybe she will get her comeuppance but I hope it's not in a violent way because I think it's been quite a sensitive story for maybe the best part of a year now."
Nigel has already filmed his last scenes in 'Coronation Street' which will see him get caught out attempting to trick Gail Platt (Helen Worth) - the daughter of his former lover Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls) - into believing he loves her before fleeing Weatherfield, but he leaves her a video revealing it was all a con.
The source added: "Nigel filmed his final scenes at the end of last month and viewers will see his exit next week - in dramatic fashion.
"Gail will discover the truth about what a liar he is, though Lewis aims to get the last laugh by leaving her a cruel message, to twist the knife yet further.
"But the plan is to leave the door open for a return in the future, as Nigel's character is extremely popular with the audience."
