Dot Branning's 'fright' on EastEnders return
Dot Branning will return to 'EastEnders' later tonight (14.01.13) and get the "fright of her life" when she discovers her granddaughter Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) kissing her cousin Joey (David Witts)
Dot Branning will get the "fright of her life" when she returns to 'EastEnders' tonight (14.01.13).
The laundrette worker - who is portrayed by June Brown, who took a six-month break from the BBC One soap to write her memoirs - will be outraged upon her return to Albert Square as she discovers her granddaughter Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) kissing her cousin Joey (David Witts).
Dot, a devout Christian, will walk in to see Lauren and Joey having some fun on the sofa, but her surprise is set to turn to disgust when she finds out the identity of the mystery man.
June has starred as Dot since the soap began in 1985 before leaving the show in 1993 and then returning to the role in 1997.
The 85-year-old star is thought to have wanted to take a full year off to pen her memoirs, but show bosses convinced her not to spend so much time away.
A source previously said: "Some friends on the set feared she may be considering a permanent exit but 'EastEnders' bosses are determined to keep her and they have offered her six months off which she has taken.
"She has admitted the filming can be exhausting and she feels some time off is long overdue."
