TOWIE-style show coming to Coventry
A new 'The Only Way is Essex'-style scripted reality show will be filmed in Coventry, West Midlands, next year.
A 'The Only Way is Essex'-style show is coming to Coventry.
A new pilot programme called 'Sent to Coventry' is being created next year and insiders believe the semi-scripted West Midlands-based show will be more "Job Centre and boozer" than "boob job and wine bar".
The Coventry Telegraph states: "Unlike its Essex counterpart, it will be more Job Centre and boozer, than boob job and wine bar.
"Coventrians from all walks of life can audition for the semi-scripted reality show in the new year."
Former 'Byker Grove' star Holly Matthews - who played Emma Miller in the teen drama for seven years - is already onboard, and she revealed the programme will show the "gritty side of life" in a "tongue-in-cheek" way.
She told the publication: "It would be wrong to portray Coventry in a negative way, but the city does make fun of itself, it is self-deprecating.
"It's not meant to be a serious documentary, people know when they watch programmes like this that it is a bit of silliness.
"Our plan is to go with the gritty side of life, but definitely tongue-in-cheek.
"We have got our own ideas, but it's the people who will drive the show. We want really cool characters, interesting people with interesting stories, and not just fake tan and lip gloss.
"We will put them in a certain location or situation, but the conversations they have will be real, it will be their own views."
Auditions for the show - which has a brand logo created by Coventry based design agency www.cdpw.co.uk - will take place in the city in the new year.
