Gail McIntyre duped by Lewis
'Coronation Street' actress Helen Worth has revealed her soap alter ego Gail McIntyre is to be bombarded with charm and affection from Lewis Archer (Nigel Havers)
Coronation Street's Gail McIntyre is to be "duped" by Lewis Archer.
The unlucky mother-of-three will be the subject of romantic attention from the devious conman - who is played by Nigel Havers - and gets swept away by his charm, even though she has previously been wary of him and, after suspecting him of an affair, plotted to end his relationship with her mother Audrey Roberts (Sue Nicholls).
Helen Worth, who plays Gail, revealed: "Gail would be horrified to think she was being duped. But she's so caught up in all the flattery - and her own guilt at having accused Lewis of having an affair with Gloria - that she will now believe anything he tells her!
"That's how men like Lewis get away with conning woman after woman, even when they know what he's like."
The 61-year-old actress is amused at how her character is so caught up in love and joked about how easily influenced Gail is by a handsome gentleman - and hinted her flirtation with Lewis could spell difficulties for her relationship with Audrey.
She added to InsideSoap magazine: "We know how easily Gail is influenced by a smooth-talking charmer! She's always had such bad judgement when it comes to men - she's so keen to be in a relationship that her heart forever rules her head.
"She's a bit foolish and easily led, but she didn't wreck his relationship with Audrey for the wrong reasons. Gail thought Lewis was conning her mum. Sadly, she may ultimately be proved right - but at what expense?"
