Phillip and Christine learn to skate for Dancing on Ice
'Dancing on Ice' bosses have asked presenters Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley to learn how to skate in a bid to improve the show's ratings
Phillip Schofield and Christine Bleakley are learning to ice skate in a bid to improve Dancing on Ice's ratings.
The presenters have been asked to put their skates on by the show's producers as a measure to jazz up the show after ratings fell by nearly 50 per cent earlier this year.
Phillip, 50, and Christine, 33, look set to present and conduct interviews from the show's ice rink, and may even perform routines themselves to attract viewers.
A show insider told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "In the past the presenters have been banned from learning in case they got injured. But it's been decided that it would be fun to see Phillip and Christine giving it a go themselves. It's a sure fire way to jazz up the programme."
The last series of the celebrity skating competition attracted just over five million viewers on ITV1, a far cry from the 11 million viewers the show regularly pulled in just two years ago.
Producers have also brought back controversial judge Jason Gardiner for the new series, and reportedly axed eight of the professional ice skaters to freshen up the show.
The eighth series of 'Dancing on Ice' will launch in January.
Rumoured celebrity contestants include 'Baywatch' babe Pamela Anderson, 'EastEnders' star Matt Lapinskas and Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle.
