James Arthur mistakenly heard 'X Factor' host Dermot O'Leary say Jahmene Douglas had beaten him in final of the ITV1 talent show last night (09.12.12) before realising it was him who had triumphed.

James Arthur thought Dermot O'Leary had announced Jahmene Douglas as 'The X Factor' winner last night (09.12.12).

The 24-year-old singer is still feeling "overwhelmed" after his victory over the 21-year-old star on the ITV1 talent show last night, but James thought he had lost when host Dermot revealed the winner of the competition.

He said: "It is starting to sink in, I was overwhelmed. That is why my reaction was so still. I couldn't believe it. I actually thought he said Jahmene."

Despite overcoming Jahmene in the public vote last night, James insists the Swindon-born star is a "world class" artist and tipped him to have a big future in the music industry.

He explained: "Jahmene I think is world class. I felt like we both won last night, just being there together.

"That guy is going to do phenomenally well off the back of this competition because he has had a chance to showcase just how amazing he is."

Following his 'X Factor' triumph, James has no plans to take a rest and has set his sights on getting into the studio and releasing an album "as quickly as possible".

Speaking on ITV1's 'Daybreak', he added: "I'm just going to work hard and get my album out as quickly as possible and not wait around.

"I've got a lot of material to go, so now as soon as I get back into the studio I'll be ready."

James' debut single 'Impossible' has already shot straight to number one on the iTunes chart following its release after the 'X Factor' final - on which he performed the song - last night. The CD version will be available to buy from Wednesday (12.12.12).
