Gary Barlow is proud "underdog" Christopher Maloney has made it so far on 'The X Factor'.
The Take That singer mentors the 34-year-old hopeful, who is through to this weekend's final, and believes the grief given to Chris by fellow judges Louis Walsh, 60, and Tulisa, 24, has helped make him a stronger singer in the competition.
He told The Sun newspaper: "The stick from Tulisa and Louis has been a good thing. He's the underdog but he sings consistently well each week.
"When I was given the over-28s category everyone was thinking, 'What are you going to do?'. It's the joke category - here we are in the final."
Christopher - who has been branded with the nickname "Christopher Baloney" - is fully aware people don't take him seriously, but has accepted his fate as it is the same every year for one contestant.
He added: "There's always got to be a pantomime villain every year and it's just unfortunate this year it's got to be me."
The Liverpool-born hopeful will be joined on stage tomorrow night (08.12.12) by his mentor Gary for a Take That duet, while Tulisa has urged viewers to vote based on talent and not their love of the judges.
She said: "You are voting for the acts, not the judge."
Chris is up against James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas and the winner will be announced on Sunday (09.12.12) on ITV1.
