Gary Lineker is rumoured to be taking part in a Comic Relief special of 'The Great British Bake Off', joining potential contestants including comedian Miranda Hart and former 'Britain's Got Talent' judge Michael McIntyre

Gary Lineker has been linked to a Comic Relief edition of 'The Great British Bake Off'.

The 52-year-old 'Match of the Day' presenter has been added to the list of potential contestants to show off his cooking skills for professional baking judges Mary Berry, 77, and Paul Hollywood, 45, and hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins for a charity version of the popular BBC Two series.

Paul revealed at the BBC Good Food Show Winter in Birmingham, West Midlands, that filming for the spin-off - which will air in March 2013 - has started, and he confirmed the fourth series has been given the go ahead.

He told the crowd: "We will be back in the new year.

"But first there will be a Comic Relief special. You don't want to miss that."

Comedian Miranda Hart, 39, and former 'Britain's Got Talent' judge Michael McIntyre, 36, are also believed to be joining the four-part mini series for the charity, which was founded in 1985 by comedy writer Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry to raise awareness of famine in Ethiopia.

Miranda also appeared on a 'Masterchef' charity special in 2011, cooking a meal for Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron.

BBC insiders revealed Paul and Mary will face their toughest challenge yet during the Comic Relief shows, telling the Birmingham Mail newspaper: "I think we can safely say there will be more than a few soggy bottoms.

"But, just like their great bakes, Mary and Paul rise to the occasion."

The last series of 'The Great British Bake Off' - which was won by law student John Whaite - gained more than five million viewers, causing BBC bosses to discuss whether or not to move the show from BBC Two to BBC One in the New Year.
