Calvin Harris beats Euro DJs according to Pete Tong.
The 'I'm Not Alone' hitmaker is the first UK DJ to breakthrough into the mainstream for over a decade, ending the dominance of Dutch and Scandinavian DJs on the circuit, according to scene veteran Pete Tong.
The DJ told BANG Showbiz: "For a long, long time if you thought about the most successful DJs in the world, then we haven't been in the game for a very long time in the UK.
"The world of dance music's been dominated by the Dutch DJs like Armin Van Buuren, and then David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia.
"Calvin's the first one of our own. I would find it quite astounding if people were turning on him, really. He's a kid from his bedroom that was born of listening to the music that was coming up, and he put his own twist on it."
Pete was in Ibiza earlier this year, which he also described as "one of the best years ever," and he was pleased to be able to hold down a residency at the Spanish island's Pacha nightclub.
He said: "Holding down a residency in Ibiza is a massive commitment, not many people do it. It runs your life, but it's very rewarding."
Pete has recently launched his new 'All Gone Pete Tong' radio show in the US this week, which is broadcast in the US on Clear Channel Media's EDM station, 'Evolution', part of iHeartRadio. A two hour slot of the show is available internationally on Beatport.com.
Pete has also this week released his latest mix, the 'All Gone Pete Tong: Future Sounds' compilation for Defected Records.
