Charles Lawson is to star in 'Doctors'.
The 53-year-old actor - who is best known for playing Jim McDonald in 'Coronation Street' for 11 years before leaving in 2000 and then returning for a number of brief appearances - will join the cast of the BBC One daytime soap on November 30.
Charles will portray a warehouse worker who has epilepsy, but he tries to hide the condition from his boss and family, The Sun newspaper reports.
The Northern Irish star returned to 'Coronation Street' for the soap's 50th anniversary last year when he reprised his role as Jim. The character's main storyline saw him rob a bank in an attempt to get some much-needed funds so he and Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) could buy the Rovers Return pub for £120,000.
But the bank job went wrong when a receptionist pressed a panic button leading to him holding the bank hostage before being arrested. Despite speculation Charles' character would be killed off, Jim remains alive in prison after being sentenced for seven years for armed robbery.
