John Whaite's Bake Off doubts
John Whaite constantly doubted his abilities while filming 'Great British Bake Off' - which he eventually won
John Whaite used to doubt himself during 'Great British Bake Off'.
The 23-year-old lawyer won this year's series of the BBC Two cooking show but admits he often lost confidence in his abilities although tried to enjoy himself at the same time.
He said: "You do doubt yourself. When you're put into a competitive environment you really do start to question your ability. The most important thing, however, is to just enjoy it, and that's precisely what I did. Sure, I wanted to win, but I didn't let it go to my head. I just kept my focus and got on with it all, and really, really enjoyed it. I'd do it all again in a second."
John says when he did have times of self doubt, hosts Mel and Sue were there to pick him up and make him believe in himself.
He told Attitude magazine: "They were great in helping my keep my confidence. When things were going badly, they would come over and say something like, 'Mate, you made a bloody coliseum', and of course that helped with self-belief. In the semi-final I was so stressed with everything, and when Mel came over and rubbed my shoulder and hugged me, I just wanted to let loose and cry like a madman."
