Scarlett Johansson was "terrified" while filming Psycho's shower scene for her upcoming film 'Hitchcock', and she blames her fear on watching too many horror films as a kid
Scarlett Johansson was "terrified" filming the 'Psycho' shower scene for new movie 'Hitchcock'.
The 'Avengers Assemble' star is to play actress Janet Leigh in the film, which captures the making of Sir Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 horror movie, and she blames her fear on watching co-star Sir Anthony Hopkins' 1991 scary film 'Silence of the Lambs' on far too many occasions.
Speaking about the 'Psycho' shower scene - which sees office worker Marion (Janet) stabbed to death by Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) as a jet of water sprays down on her - she explained: "You have got to be brave, get into the shower, and face Anthony Hopkins as Hitchcock jabbing you in the face with a 12-inch kitchen knife.
"As much as Anthony Hopkins is a pussycat, he's terrifying. Maybe I watched 'Silence of the Lambs' too many times when I was a kid. Maybe I was having some flashbacks. So I didn't need too much preparation for the scene."
The 27-year-old actress admits the film crew were "very nervous" when they were shooting the shower scene, but mainly because she was undressed in the shot.
She added to V Magazine: "We only had the luxury to shoot the scene for a day, and everybody was feeling very nervous because it involved water and nobody wants the actor to get wet.
"They were concerned with modesty and all these things - but I don't care about any of that stuff and Janet Leigh never did either."
