Tyrone Dobbs is to rekindle his romance with former flame Fiz on 'Coronation Street', despite having a violent girlfriend.

Coronation Street's Tyrone Dobbs is to have an affair with former girlfriend Fiz.

The character - played by Alan Halsall - has been suffering for months at the hands of his violent girlfriend Kirsty (Natalie Gumede) and turns to Fiz (Jennie McAlpine) for some emotional support.

However, her help develops into something more physical between the pair.

When Kirsty - who has left his name off their daughter Ruby's birth certificate and stopped him seeing his family - begins to suspect something is going on between the pair, she turns her attention to Fiz.

In one episode, she is seen causing Fiz physical injury when she sabotages her machine at the underwear factory.

Tyrone's abuse-suffering has gone on for some time, and those behind the storyline say it was not done lightly.

A source said: "This is not a decision we have taken lightly. Female on male domestic abuse is a sensitive area.

"Kirsty will be seen attacking Tyrone and the fallout will be how she feels terrible about it and attempts to show some remorse."

Alan previously revealed he feels sorry for his character every time he opens a script as he knows it will contain bad news.

He said: "Tyrone's gone through heartbreak for years. He puts his heart on his sleeve and it always ends badly. I feel sorry for him every time I read a script because he is a doormat.

"I think the reason people relate to him is that we all know someone like him. There's always that guy that people walk all over and I feel sorry for him."
