Frank Grillo may play Crossbones in 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier'.

Comics giant Marvel is working on the second film in the superhero franchise with producers casting for two "very physical" villains.

Frank, who recently screen tested for the role of the supervillain, tweeted: "See Ya LA. It was a good trip. Marvel was a lot of fun. Be cool if it works out. #CaptainAmerica. (sic)"

He later added: "WOW. Badass fans that Marvel has. Fierce muthas. #bones (sic)"

Crossbones is a henchman to the Red Skull and a lethal marksman who sports a skull-like mask and usually brandishes two machine guns.

In the 'Captain America' storyline, he was a gang leader before enrolling in Taskmaster's school for criminals.

Frank's recent credits include roles in 'End of Watch', 'Gangster Squad' and 'Zero Dark Thirty'.

'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' is currently in the pre-production stages, so most roles have not been cast. Chris Evans will return as Captain America, and Scarlett Johansson will join as Black Widow.

Other rumoured parts include a role for Mary Elizabeth Winstead, and Sebastian Stan has been rumoured to play The Winter Soldier.

The film is set to open in the US in April 2014.

Just as the titular hero (Evans) is adjusting to life in the 21st century, SHIELD turns out to have been infiltrated, and he must team up with Black Widow (Johansson) and Falcon (Mackie). A highly enjoyable conspiracy thriller with stunning action sequences, outstanding performances and a clever, morally complex plot.
