Brooke Vincent hated filming car crash on Corrie
Brooke Vincent was incredibly nervous about dodging live traffic while filming her 'Coronation Street' car accident scene
Brooke Vincent was terrified filming her car accident in 'Coronation Street'.
The 19-year-old actress - who plays loveable lesbian Sophie Webster on the ITV1 soap - says she has never been as nervous on set as when she filmed her dangerous crash scene, which involved dodging real traffic.
Brooke said: "However much the stunt co-ordinator told me the cars wouldn't touch me, because the stunt drivers knew exactly what they were doing, it went against every instinct to step into the road.
"The cars were so close and doing 20 to 30mph, and your reaction is to move out of the way. But it was all so cleverly done. It required 100 per cent concentration and there had to be a lot of communication to make sure everyone knew what they were doing.
"If just one person was out of time it could have easily gone terribly wrong."
Depsite the exciting storyline, which sees her struggling to walk again, the brunette actress revealed her "proudest" achievement to date is Sophie coming out as a lesbian.
Brooke said she would hate for producers to change her character's sexual orientation because she feels she is helping thousands of young girls.
She told The Sun newspaper: "I feel quite strongly that, now Sophie is a lesbian, she stays one. It's nice that girls can see it on television. Maybe if they see a lesbian on prime-time TV, they'll think there is nothing wrong with it. And there is nothing wrong with it.
"Young girls send me messages on twitter saying how much I've helped them and when I see lesbians holding hands in the street, I feel part of it and feel protective and supportive.
"I can't put into words how proud I am to have helped people. It's one of the things I'm proudest of in my life."
