Doc Martin returns to ITV
Grumpy medic Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) is returning to TV screens in the sixth series of IV1 drama 'Doc Martin'
'Doc Martin' is returning to ITV1 next year.
Martin Clunes will reprise his role as grumpy doctor Martin Ellingham in eight new episodes of the ITV1 drama, three years after the show was last aired, as he grapples with becoming a father with his long-suffering love interest Louise (Caroline Catz),
The actor said: "I'm thrilled to be going back to the beautiful North Cornish coast to shoot series six of 'Doc Martin'. Our challenge this season will be to force Louisa and the doctor to live together with Baby James which as far as I can see has disaster written all over it ...
"And then there's the dog and Dame Eileen but not necessarily in that order!"
Drama commissioner Laura Mackie added: "'Doc Martin' is one of our most loved and valued dramas and I'm so pleased that we're returning to Port Wenn to spend more time with the irascible Doctor, his family and patients."
All the series regulars will be returning for the sixth series of the show, including Doc Martin's no-nonsense, confrontational Auntie Ruth (Eileen Atkins), local restaurateur and handyman, Bert Large (Ian McNeice) and patient receptionist Morwenna Newcross (Jessica Ransom).
The drama has proved popular since it was first broadcast in 2004 and averaged at 10.6 million viewers with a 37% share of the audience when it was last on air in 2010.
Filming will begin next spring on in Port Isaac, Cornwall.
