John Whaite wins Great British Bake Off
John Whaite won 'The Great British Bake Off' last night (16.10.12), beating Brendan Lynch and James Morton to take home the prize.
John Whaite was crowned winner of 'The Great British Bake Off' last night (16.10.12).
The 23-year-old law student beat off competition from Brendan Lynch and James Morton to pick up the prize after making a heaven and hell-inspired chocolate cake which impressed judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry.
Commenting on the win, John - who managed to get a first in his law degree while competing on the BBC Two show - admits he was shocked, and now plans to launch a career in baking.
He said: "It was a massive surprise to hear my name. No matter how well you have done you always doubt yourself, you always think, 'Right it won't be me'.
"Nothing is set in stone but I definitely want to make this into a career. Just because I have won 'The Great British Bake Off' it is going to take time and it is going to take a lot of hard work. I am willing to put the work in, you just have to watch this space."
John also credited his mother Linda with helping him stay grounded following the win.
He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: "My mum is very proud but she wants to keep my feet on the ground, which I need to be honest, otherwise I might float away. She is the most important person in my life."
