The 'Twilight' hunk and 'Drive' actress are set to star in the true crime drama, which will be led by 'Man on Wire' director James Marsh and produced by Alexandra Milchan, Mark Roybal, Steven M. Rales, Todd Field and Michael Pruss.
Brad Ingelsby wrote the screenplay, which is based on the true story of a young couple who kidnap and hold for ransom their town's richest man. However, the pair's plan falls apart when they decide to bury him alive.
Carey, 27, will play the femme fatale and Robert will star in a supporting role as Jimmy - Carey's alter-ego's true love who is not involved with the crime.
It is unsure when production will begin though according to Deadline, the Indian Paintbrush filmmakers are seeking funding at next month's American Film Market.
In the meantime, 26-year-old Robert can be seen in 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part Two', which is to be released in November.
Carey's next movie will see her star in upcoming drama 'The Great Gatsby' - a big screen adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 book of the same name - alongside Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and Isla Fisher.
