Lucy Spraggan pulled out of 'X Factor' rehearsals after her grandma Marjorie died on Sunday (07.10.12).
The 21-year-old singer was left devastated after hearing about the death - which had come after a recent bout of ill health - and went from London to Kent to be with her grandfather.
She spent the day with her family on Monday, but has since returned to the competition to rehearse for Saturday night's show (13.10.12).
She told The Sun newspaper: "My nanny was a great woman and she and grandad were together for more than 50 years so I really want to be around to support him and my family at this time.
"My grandad is an amazingly strong and kind man and they loved each other very much. She's at peace now and that's comforting to know.
"She was so proud to see me singing and I'm glad I made her smile. She'll be greatly missed."
A show source added Lucy would be given as much time "as she needs" to deal with her grief.
Lucy - who is mentored by Tulisa Contostavlos - is hotly tipped to do well in the show having sung her own song in the first live outing last week.
