Emeli Sande and Plan B lead Mobo Awards race

Jay Z, Beyonce, Kanye West, Professor Green and Rihanna are also in the running
Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sande and London rapper Plan B lead the nominations for the 2012 Mobo awards which were announced Mon 17 Sep. The awards ceremony will take place on Sat 3 Nov in Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
Nominated in the Best Female category, Sande is competing with last year’s runaway winner Jessie J - who scooped four awards in 2011 – and Tulisa of N-Dubz fame. Sande has the chance to claim five awards including Best Song for ‘Next To Me’ and Best Album for Our Version of Events. Former X Factor contestant Rebecca Ferguson and singer Jessie Ware are also in the running.
Plan B faces stiff competition from Ed Sheeran and Professor Green in the Best Male category, while his album Ill Manors - a soundtrack to the film of the same name, which Plan B also directed - is up for Best Album.
The Best International Act features perennial favourites like Nas, Drake, Rihanna and Kanye West, as well as a husband-wife face off as Jay Z and Beyonce compete against each other for the award.
Established in 1996 by Kanya King, the Mobo awards are intended to celebrate and recognize music and culture of black origins performed by artists of any background.
