Max and Tanya Branning will tie the knot on Christmas Eve in an explosive festive showdown on the BBC One soap.

'Eastenders' lovebirds Max and Tanya Branning will wed on Christmas Eve.

The couple is set to walk down the aisle for a second time on December 24 and Max (Jake Wood) will surprise Tanya (Jo Joyner) with the news by handing her a calendar in an upcoming episode of the BBC One soap.

A source told Inside Soap magazine: "Has Max lost the plot? That must be what Tanya is thinking when he gives her that calendar. But then he takes it and turns the pages to December.

"That's when she sees that Christmas Eve has been circled - it's the date when they'll be having their second wedding! But while it's all smiles right now, a Christmas wedding is always a gamble in Albert Square, isn't it?"

Tanya is overwhelmed by Max's romantic gesture, especially since she's been worried about even mentioning their nuptials because of his strange and distant behaviour since his mysterious trip to Manchester.

The ceremony could be one of the most dramatic Walford weddings to date and Max's big secret is likely to come out in an explosive festive showdown.

Speaking about the Christmas wedding, the insider added: "Sometimes they can be romantic affairs - look at when Billy married Little Mo, for example, but we all know that the festive season is when all the biggest dreams happen, and this year will surely be no exception.

"Organizing any kind of important family event around Christmas is tempting fate, so there'll be a twist in the tale. Put it this way - I wouldn't want to be in Max's shoes if Tanya finds out when he's concealing!"

Actress Jo Joyner is set to leave the soap for a few months in early 2013, and her absence looks likely to be a result of the Christmas storyline.
