Joe McElderry says 'X Factor' still makes him nervous.
The 21-year-old - who won the sixth series of the ITV1 show in 2009 - revealed he feels sick with anxiety if he hears the theme tune because of the memories it recalls.
He said: "I saw the first 20 minutes of the show the other day but every time I hear the theme tune my stomach gets really nervous, even now.
"It's all the anticipation."
Although he can't bring himself to watch the show, he also revealed his thoughts that this year will be the decider on whether the 'X Factor' ratings sink or swim with the absence of Simon Cowell.
Joe said: "There have been two series without Simon now so this series will be the big test to see if it can survive without him."
The singer - who bravely ended speculation on his sexuality when he came out two years ago - admitted his new album 'Here's What I Believe' is one of his most personal records yet.
He added to the Daily Express newspaper: "I drew a lot from my relationships. I'm always looking to get the emotion across.
"I'm a good listener to friends so I think about their experiences too."
