Sophie Webster could be left paralysed in a shocking new 'Coronation Street' storyline.

The troubled teen - played by Brooke Vincent - is left in a serious condition after her pal Ryan Connor loses control of a car while high on cocaine.

The wayward student (Sol Heras) flees the scene when emergency services arrive.

Ken Barlow breaks the news to shocked drinkers in the Rovers Return, saying: "I bumped into Sally on the way back from the hospital. Sophie's had an operation on her back.

"She's awake but there's a chance she'll never walk again."

Ken later breaks the news to wife Dierdre and stepdaughter Tracy, who has been dating Ryan.

He explained: "She was with Ryan. He was high on drugs, dodging cars on the road or something. According to Sally, he ran off when the ambulance came."

He then warns Tracy: "You should cast him away without a second thought."

The storyline is said to be one of the show's biggest for the autumn, with the repercussions lasting for months.
