Lohan jailed for one day after plea bargain
- 24 August 2007
Actress Lindsey Lohan will serve one day in jail and three years probation as part of a plea bargain after pleading guilty to drink driving and drug charges. The star of Disney film Freaky Friday, who faced seven charges, will also complete community service and attend a drug treatment programme. In a statement, she said: “It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs. Recently I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case.”
Meanwhile Hollywood star Nicole Richie spent just over an hour in jail after she began serving a four-day sentence for driving under the influence of drugs. An official for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said federal rules for dealing with overcrowding had led to a reduction in the time served by inmates with lesser charges.
