Smiths reunion rumours laid to rest by Morrissey

  • 24 August 2007

Morrissey has reportedly turned down an offer of around £40 million to tour with The Smiths, and has said upcoming shows in LA and New York will be his last “for the foreseeable future”.

The latest revelation has put paid to rumours about the band reforming, which have been circulating for years. Morrissey was asked to perform 50 shows throughout the world in 2008 and 2009, an offer he subsequently rejected.

Discussing his upcoming shows, he said: “The desire is to go out with some great memories for everyone as who knows what the future will bring.” The Smiths split in 1987 shortly after their fourth album Strangeways Here We Come was released.

The former Smiths frontman and purveyor of bittersweet indie pop continues to enjoy his solo renaissance.
