Sue Johnston will cause chaos when she arrives in 'Coronation Street'.

The 68-year-old actress is joining the ITV1 soap, playing Stella Price's brassy mother Gloria, and it doesn't take long before she's upset regulars in Stella's pub, The Rovers Return.

Within hours of her arrival, she decides to have a suggestion box to improve the bar service but it backfires when one resident brands her "vulgar and loud".

She then finds out it was Norris Cole and Mary Taylor and she shouts at busybody Norris: "Go on, get out. And tell Mary Quite Contrary she's barred an' all."

Then Dennis Tanner - who recently married Rita Sullivan - comes under her wrath, when she accuses him of coming on to her because he's always winking at her.

She then stuns Owen Armstrong when she decides he's a gangster and is only using his building business as a cover. She also clashes with the bar staff as she continually tries to tell them how to do their jobs.

Sue's 'Coronation Street' storyline recently had to be changed after she suffered a mystery illness before she was due to start filming.

A source said: "It's taken a bit of time to write Sue back in because the writers needed to find the perfect scenario to introduce her character. The new scenario is even better than the first one.

"From the few days Sue was in before she fell ill, everyone was impressed at how wonderfully she fitted in."
