Glasgow packs a punch with two piping hot cultural events
- Year of Creative Scotland
- 4 August 2012
Piping Live! and World Pipe Band Championships show that there's a cultural wind blowing in Glasgow too
The capital is awash with festival fever and likewise, Glasgow is packing a mighty big punch when it comes to cultural events this summer. While we welcome international visitors from across the globe, Scotland’s largest city has a distinctly Scottish vibe as it boasts a pipe-blowing, mind-blowing month showcasing two world-class piping events!
Glasgow once again welcomes new and established artists from over ten countries to perform at 150 events across the city, including the John McSherry Band, Breabach and Rura. Look forward to master classes, ceilidhs, concerts, street performances and more from 6–12 Aug.
The World Pipe Band Championships
On 11 Aug 40,000 spectators, 8,000 pipers and drummers, 16 nations and one World Champion will come together for this coveted championship. The one day event at Glasgow Green has more things to do than you can shake your bag pipe at - from Highland games to dancing, fairs to food, face painting and more.
