Some visual highlights from Scotland's Pagan-rooted festival
The annual Wickerman Festival took place in East Kirkcarswell from 20-21 July. The theme of this year's event was ‘Olympics’, and fittingly the 40ft Wickerman wore Union Jack boxing shorts and held the Olympic torch in his hand.
With more than 10 stages, the crowd was presented with a varied and exciting line-up. The highlights of Friday night were The Levellers, Scissor Sisters, Dog is Dead, Jake Bugg, Cast, Blockheads alongside less well-known bands such as The Cats and Filter Script.
On Saturday, Newton Faulkner was one of the day’s highlights. Among others there were The View, Texas, Kassidy, TBC, Root System, Bad Manners, funk masters The Leonard Jones Potential and new alt-punk band Legend In Japan. The Walkabout band Blowjangles was also there to entertain the crowd between the stage acts.
The joyful atmosphere was complemented by a couple getting married at the fairground in the middle of a cheering crowd. At midnight the Wickerman was set alight with fireworks following. The festival was rounded up with a DJ set from former Streets frontman Mike Skinner.
