Gary Barlow's 'uphill battle' with Over 25s on X Factor
Gary Barlow will mentor the Over 25s category on this year's 'X Factor', while Tulisa Contostavlos was given the Girls, newcomer Nicole Scherzinger has the Boys and Louis Walsh will mentor the Groups
Gary Barlow will face an "uphill battle" mentoring the Over 25s category on this year's 'X Factor'.
The Take That singer has been tasked with trying to find the first winner from the section since Steve Brookstein triumphed in the first series of the ITV1 talent show in 2004, but he's not a fan of "joke acts".
A source said: "Gary doesn't like joke acts and the Overs category is often full of novelty acts.
"In the past, when Louis has mentored them, the public got used to jokey acts like Wagner Carrilho and Johnny Robinson.
"Gary is preparing himself for an uphill battle."
Louis Walsh will take charge of the Groups category, with new judge Nicole Scherzinger set to try to find a winner from the Boys, and Tulisa Contostavlos - who mentored girl band Little Mix to victory in last year's series - will be in charge of the Girls.
While Gary faces a tough task, he has enlisted the help of his Take That bandmate Robbie Williams to help him run the rule over his wannabes in Mallorca for the Judges Houses stage of the competition, despite Robbie's daughter being due at the same time.
The insider explained: "For men as rich as Gary and Robbie, Mallorca is only a couple of hours away. They've worked out a way they can jet back if they need to."
Tulisa and the Girls will fly to the Caribbean for the Judges Houses, and the 'Young' singer "can't wait" for the show to air again after having a tough year when her ex-boyfriend Justin Edwards released X-rated footage of her onto the internet.
A source added to The Sun: "She absolutely can't wait. She is young, free and single and determined not to let anyone bring her down again."
