A winning contestant on 'Red Or Black' was told he had won nothing.

The final of the new series of the show sees contenders face The Vortex - a giant pinball machine where contestants shoot a ball and must guess whether it will land on a blinking red or black light - and the unnamed man bet on red. Hosts Ant and Dec told him it had landed on black and he was sent home with nothing - but when producers checked the footage they had made a mistake.

Because they couldn't reshoot the show, the presenting duo travelled to the man's home to surprise him with the news he had scooped £500,000.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: "It appeared from the gallery that he'd lost, but as it was so close, we decided to view every angle and frame straight after the record.

"It's a one in a million chance but we took the decision to give the contestant the prize."

'Red Or Black' returns to ITV1 this autumn.
