Chris Moyles quits breakfast show
Chris Moyles has quit his BBC Radio 1 'Breakfast Show' with a new presenter set to be announced this morning.
Chris Moyles has quit his Radio 1 'Breakfast Show'.
The 38-year-old presenter - who is contracted to the BBC station until 2014 after signing a new two and a half year contract last year - will leave his morning programme at the end of September after eight and a half years.
The DJ made the revelation at 8:10am when he told listeners that he would be stepping but immediately added: "Now let's get back to what the show is all about... Music."
He then played Take That's 'Never Forget' immediately after.
Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper paid tribute to Chris saying: "I'd like to thank Chris. Quite simply he's been the most successful breakfast show host in Radio 1 history.
"He's done it for more than eight and half years and he's been fantastic."
The Chris Moyles show has just over 7.10 million listeners, according to latest official radio figures (Rajar) compared to 7.52 million listeners this time last year.
As Chris is still under contract, he could move to one of the sister stations or a later timeslot although details have not yet been announced.
The new presenter will be announced during Newsbeat at 10:30am on BBC Radio 1.
