Elvis anniversary helps chart domination
Ending a week of celebrations and tributes to mark the 30th anniversary of the death of Elvis Presley, the UK charts were dominated this week by an Elvis revival. Elvis Presley compilation album The King entered the album chart at number one, knocking Kate Nash’s Made of Bricks to the number two spot. In the singles chart, a re-release of his song Suspicious Minds entered at number 11, originally claiming the number two spot in 1969. Elsewhere in the chart, rap star Kanye West achieved his first number one with his single Stronger, knocking Swedish singer Robyn to number two. Despite cancelling her performances at this weekend’s V Festival due to exhaustion, Amy Winehouse’s single Tears Dry On Their Own climbed back up the chart eight places to number 16.
