Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber admits 'Superstar' will be very tough for contestants.

The talent-search show - which is looking to cast someone in the title role of a touring production of rock opera 'Jesus Christ Superstar' - will feature the live programmes run back-to-back, meaning the hopefuls will have a huge workload because there is so little time between episodes.

Andrew explained: "It's a very rigorous show. All the finalists will have to learn 140 songs because night to night we don't know who is going to go forward."

Andrew has previously searched for musical stars on BBC shows - looking for characters for productions of 'Wizard of Oz', 'Oliver!' and 'Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' - but says he decided to move to ITV1 because he was approached by the people he originally worked with on the rival network.

He explained to the Daily Mail newspaper: "The people at ITV now were the same ones who took a gamble on me in the first place at the BBC, so that's why I have moved over.

"ITV wanted very much to do a programme with me. They got very excited when I said, 'I don't really want to do another stage show, I'm thinking of an arena tour of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'.' They said that was something they would really like to do, too."
