David Tennant leads Broadchurch cast
David Tennant, Arthur Darvill, Will Mellor and Olivia Colman are among the stars of forthcoming ITV drama series 'Broadchurch'.
David Tennant is leading the cast of a new crime drama.
The former 'Doctor Who' actor will play a detective in ITV'1 'Broadchurch', an eight-part series about the death of a young boy in a seaside town.
Joining him in the cast is Olivia Colman, Vicky McClure, Will Mellor and another 'Doctor Who' star, Arthur Darvill - who plays current companion Rory Williams.
David plays out-of-town officer Detective Inspector Alec Hardy, who is set to clash with a local policewoman, played by 'Peep Show' actress Olivia.
'Doctor Who' and 'Torchwood' writer Chris Chibnall has penned the script and calls it a story of "scale and intimacy" in which the characters' lives are "laid bare".
He added: "Broadchurch focuses on a small British community which finds itself at the eye of a storm.
"In the wake of one boy's death, the residents come under scrutiny and suspicion."
Laura Mackie, of ITV1's drama commissioning team, said: "'Broadchurch' tells the story of a small community and the devastating emotional repercussions for everyone caught up in the mysterious death of a young boy.
"It's not a 'whodunit' or a traditional police drama. Chris Chibnall's superb scripts have attracted a stellar cast."
The show will be filmed on location in Dorset and Portishead later between August and November.
