Emmerdale's Ashley Thomas is left homeless in the ITV1 soap opera's latest storyline
Emmerdale's Ashley Thomas is left homeless in the ITV1 soap opera's latest storyline.
The fallen vicar - played by actor John Middleton - reaches his lowest point this week (27.06.12) as he is forced to sleep rough on the streets and is too proud to ask for help.
An insider told Inside Soap magazine: "Ashley is a desperate soul fighting for survival. He has no access to money, and his loved ones don't want to know him. Ashley's in trouble and too proud to ask for help."
Desperate Ashley resorts to stealing and rummaging in dustbins to survive, before being robbed by a homeless girl he befriends on the streets.
The sourced explained: "Ashley sees no reason why he should distrust her. They seem to be in the same situation.
"But he's going to start learning the hard way about life on the streets."
His wife Laurel is oblivious to the situation, however, and makes matters worse by continuing to press for a divorce.
The insider added: "Things get even worse as he tries to talk to his daughter Gabby while she's on a school trip. Laurel's furious and warns Ashley to keep away from her."
The drama comes to head when former vicar Ashley disappears just as his friends find out about his situation.
