Alice Cooper has blasted the state of rock music today and thinks young rock stars need to man up and get a "gigantic shot of testosterone".
Alice Cooper thinks young rock stars need a "gigantic shot of testosterone."
The 'I'm Eighteen' rocker - famed for his shock rock look and eccentric behaviour - thinks modern rock bands need to man up and embrace their inner rock star.
He exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "What really bothers me more than anything else - it seems to me that all the young bands that are out there right now are afraid to be rock stars.
"They sing like they wanna fit in, 'We don't wanna be elaborate we don't wanna be outgoing, or outrageous. We wanna be the guy next door.' And honestly I think this generation needs a gigantic shot of testosterone."
The outspoken 64-year-old is also not a fan of combining genres such as rock and folk.
He explained: "You read a magazine - and I won't mention any names - and it'll be like, 'You've gotta go see this band they're on the cover of 'Rolling Stone' or the cover of this magazine, and they're the best new band you've ever heard'.
"I look at them and I go: 'What? They have an accordion in the band!' Now how is that rock 'n' roll! that's folk!"
The rock legend said he blames the emergence of "depressing" 90s grunge for the downfall of modern rock.
He said: "All of a sudden there was this grunge look that was all corduroy and heroin, and really down depressing and I'm sitting there thinking: 'Jeez, that's no fun at all!'
"I think if bands get too poetic they get too introspective and they just get boring as hell."
