Roxanne Pallett wants to play a mental patient.

The 29-year-old actress wants to portray a character who has "hit rock bottom" and has become a "tortured soul" because she enjoys pushing herself to the limit and believes the process of playing such a role is like an "experiment with your soul".

She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "My ultimate dream would be to be in something like 'Girl, Interrupted' when Angelina Jolie, Winona Ryder and Brittany Murphy were in that mental institution.

"I would love to, at some point in my career, play a character like one of those because they're such tortured souls. Playing a character that's hit rock bottom and is at their most broken state would be so interesting.

"Playing someone so far removed from yourself, playing you at your utter most worst, utter most fragile, utter most vulnerable. I love that. It's like an experiment with your soul, pushing yourself to the point where you've seen versions of yourself that could've happened if your life had taken a different turn."

Roxanne - who is running the Race For Life in Bolton next week (01.07.12) in aid of Cancer Research UK after losing her grandma to a brain tumour when she was just 16 - shot to fame as domestic abuse victim Jo Sugden in 'Emmerdale' and while she finds it "rewarding" to play tragic characters, her friends think she should be in comedy acting.

The brunette beauty - who is raising cash with TV host Christine Bleakley and Sugababe Heidi Range - added: "Everyone tells me they want to see me in comedy because they think I'm comedic in real life but I'm always crying or screaming or fighting in my roles. I always play such tragic characters, but I do find them rewarding."
