Ice Warriors returning to Doctor Who
'Doctor Who' bosses are bringing back the Ice Warriors after almost 40 years.
The Ice Warriors are returning to 'Doctor Who'.
The Time Lord will do battle against the half-reptile, half-humanoid monsters for the first time since 1974 - when Jon Pertwee was in the lead role - in 2013 and are expected to be among the first creatures encountered by the Doctor's new companion, who is played by Jenna-Louise Coleman.
A source told the Daily Star newspaper of the episode, which will be written by Mark Gatiss: "'Who' fans have been crying out for the return of the Ice Warriors. Now they've got their wish. It's going to be an exciting year with the 50th anniversary celebrations."
Jenna's character - who is set to hit screens at Christmas - has been shrouded in mystery but it was recently claimed her name will be Clara.
Fans who have watched filming in Wales claim they overheard the Doctor (Matt Smith) calling her Clara.
Hardcore followers have explained the middle name of former assistant Elisabeth Sladen, who died in April 2011, was Clara and bosses could want to honour her with the name of the new character, who replaces Karen Gillen's Amy Pond.
However, show bosses are remaining tight lipped with a source saying: "There is so much interest bosses are really guarded to keep fans guessing."
