The BBC have released the first official picture of Doctor Who and his new companion.
Jenna-Louise Coleman has joined the cast of the sci-fi show as a replacement for The Doctor's departing companions Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) and while she will not be seen on screen until Christmas, the first image of the pair has emerged.
The photograph shows the titular character, played by Matt Smith, enjoying a laugh with his latest partner.
Matt praised his co-star, telling BBC Blogs: "It [filming on the new series] is going well. Jenna brings a really different energy to the show - one which I think is very interesting."
It was recently claimed that the Time Lord's latest assistant is called Clara after fans who have watched filming in Wales said they overheard the Doctor using that name.
Hardcore followers have explained the middle name of former assistant Elisabeth Sladen, who died in April 2011, was Clara and bosses could want to honour her with the name of the new character.
However, show bosses are remaining tight lipped with a source saying: "There is so much interest bosses are really guarded to keep fans guessing."
