New festival with focus on quality from team behind End of the Road
End of the Road has been the latte-drinking, glam-camping Guardian reader's weekender of choice almost since it's inception in 2006. Picking up plaudits from The Times and The Guardian (of course) as well as an award for 'Best Small Festival' last year, the EoTR team are obviously onto a winner with their philosophy of booking serious musicians, providing quality food and drink and generally creating an atmosphere as cosy and bijou as a fur-lined Birkenstock.
This year they're spreading their wings with a brand new event, No Direction Home, held in ancient woodland on Welbeck Estate, near Sheffield. It has the same family-friendly credentials as its sister festival and non-musical highlights including artisan food, a comedy stage, cinema, literature venue and bookshop and over 80 workshops. There'll also be late-night campfires, a postcard post office (when was the last time you wrote one?) and a space hopper gladiator pit for your alternative kicks. Lovely enough for you?
Musical choice nuggets across the fest's two music stages include Austra, Best Friends, Beth Jeans Houghton & The Hooves Of Destiny, Cold Specks, Django Django, Moon Duo, Other Lives, Peaking Lights and Veronica Falls.
Line-up: Richard Hawley, Andrew Bird, The Low Anthem, Dirty Three, Gruff Rhys, The Unthanks with the Brighouse & Rastrick Brass Band.
