Engelbert Humperdinck is flying to Azerbaijan today (18.05.12) to begin rehearsals for the 'Eurovision Song Contest'.
The 76-year-old singer will be performing the song 'Love Will Set You Free' at the event in the country's capital Baku next Saturday (26.05.12), and he admits he is hopeful of doing well because of his international status.
He said: "I don't think age has got anything to do with the singing, with the contest. It's not a talent competition, it's a song contest.
"Because of my experience of travelling around the world and being an ambassador for my country, I think it stands a good chance."
Engelbert is best known for his work in the late 60s, but admits he is excited to be travelling to the Central Asian country for the first time.
He said: "I haven't been to Baku before - I'm looking forward to it. I've seen a film about it and it looks and sounds very exciting. It's a new place for me and any place that's new is great."
Sweden are the current favourites to win the annual competition.
