AC/DC's Angus Young has been named Australia's greatest ever guitarist, beating Tommy Emmanuel, Chris Cheney and Rick Brewster

AC/DC's Angus Young has been named Australia's greatest ever guitarist.

The 'Highway to Hell' rocker ranked Number One on Australian Guitar magazine's list of best ever Australian guitarists.

Tommy Emmanuel, Cold Chisel's Ian Moss, Chris Cheney from The Living End and The Angels' Rick Brewster complete the Top Five.

This news comes after fellow AC/DC guitarist, and Angus' brother, Malcolm Young, has played down reports by the band's singer, Brian Johnson, they could have a new record out by next year.

Malcolm said: "You know what Brian's like. He just says things and then walks away. It'll be a little while -- a year or two anyway.

"I've been doing some jamming on some song ideas but I do that all the time, as do the rest of the band. We are still working. But we had a long rest between 'Stiff Upper Lip' and 'Black Ice', so I think we need a couple of years to recuperate and work on it a bit more."

the group's last album, 2008's 'Black Ice', was nominated for a host of awards including a Grammy, a BRIT and an ARIA Music Award. The band - which formed in 1973 - embarked upon a two year world tour in support of the record before taking time off in 2011.
