'Britain's Got Talent' winner Ashleigh Butler was in '"complete shock" when her dancing dog act with pooch Pudsey was crowned victorious
'Britain's Got Talent' winner Ashleigh Butler was in "complete shock" when she and her dog Pudsey were crowned victorious.
The 17-year-old student claims she expected to lose to singers Jonathan and Charlotte on Saturday's (12.05.12) live final on ITV and was overwhelmed when she was told she had won.
Speaking on Daybreak today (14.05.12) she said: "Our goal was just to get into the final and when we were the last two, with Jonathan and Charlotte, I honestly thought they had won it. I was preparing myself to jump on them and congratulate them. So it was a complete shock when our names were called out.
"I am overwhelmed by the support that we have received from everyone and we both would just like to say a massive 'thank you' to everyone who picked up the phone for us and voted."
The pair won 39 per cent of the public vote, earning a cash prize £500,000 and the chance to perform for The Queen at the Royal Variety show.
Ashleigh added that canine pal Pudsey is lapping up the attention: "He is loving it. The more attention he gets, the more he loves it. He is a bit tired at the moment, so I think he needs just a good couple of days' rest. But he is brilliant."
The dancing duo look set to have a glittering showbiz career, with rumours rife about a book deal and a dog food advert as well as Hollywood roles.
Ashleigh commented: "Nothing's confirmed yet".
Questioned about what she would spend the money on, Ashleigh replied: "I mean first of all we did lose his lead backstage - he had a really nice black sparkly lead, and yeah we lost it backstage. So he needs a new lead."
