Tommy Duckworth's shady dealings
Chris Fountain believes his 'Coronation Street' alter-ego Tommy Duckworth is "digging himself into a hole" over his father's debt problems.
Chris Fountain reckons that his character in Coronation Street is being forced into a world of crime.
Tommy Duckworth - who Chris portrays on the ITV soap - has been helping his father who is struggling to repay his debts and enter into the murky world of drugs to do so.,
However, he does not think he is a bad person.
Chris told Inside Soap magazine: "Tommy is doing the wrong thing for the right reasons. He isn't a bad guy - everything is to protect his girlfriend, Tina.
"Tommy knows that this is serious since she told him about what happened between Rick and her late father, Joe. Tommy blames himself for everything. He's dug himself into a hole and can't see any way out."
However later on Tommy's kindness backfires on him when Terry runs off with his inheritance and the cash lent to him by Tyrone, and he can't bring himself to tell anyone about what he has done.
He said: "It takes Tommy a while to realise he's been conned by his dad, but he's gutted when he finds out. It's sad - all Tommy's ever wanted is his father. He feels stupid, because everyone around him said that Terry was bad news, and he was blind to it."
