Chinese state media have revealed that translations of the latest installment of the Harry Potter series are already available, despite the official release date being late October. However Chinese students managed to translate Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows within hours of the English release on July 21. State newspaper the China Daily said: “They worked in teams around the clock, eating nothing but instant noodles, according to messages they left on the Internet.” Copyright is a huge issue in China, where fake copies of DVDs and designer clothes are readily available, so to avoid charges the students added a disclaimer to their translations. They said: “We translated the book because we love Harry, and we do not intend to use it for commercial purposes.”
